Work Experience takes place during the summer term for both Year 10 and 12 students.
Year 10 6th – 10th July 2020
Year 12 6th – 17th July 2020
Work experience is important to consider. Not only is it a way to sample your chosen career but it can help you decide upon a chosen career. Work experience gives you the opportunity to chat to employees and get a real feel for the industry, as well as learning the do’s and don’ts of the workplace. It will help you to identify your strength and weaknesses and enable you time to improve these. A young person is more likely to be successful in the job search if they have undertaken work experience, as it shows motivation and determination to succeed in your chosen career.
Year 12 Students
If you are considering or intending to continue your studies at University, please be mindful that some courses do insist on a number of hours work experience to be undertaken prior to the start date. This is most common in courses such as Teaching and Medical professions but is becoming a common request for lots of courses.
In the first instance we ask that you make initial contact with employers to enquire about the possibility of work experience. This can be done face to face, telephone, email or letter. On some occasions and depending on the business, some employers do like to deal with school direct. If this is the case, please come into school with the contact details and The Careers Team, will be happy to help.
If you are struggling to find a suitable placement or not sure where to start, please see The Careers Team, who will be more than happy to help you.
