Key Dates and Transition Information for Parents

Feeder Schools Uniform and PE Kit Evening – Year 6 students from our feeder schools and their families have been invited to one of three dates to St Wilfrid’s to try on and order Uniform and PE kit:

Tuesday 21st May: Holy Family & St Michael’s / St John the Baptist / Sacred Heart

Wednesday 22nd May: All Saints C of E / Altoft’s J&I / St Joseph’s Moorthorpe

Thursday 23rd May: St Joseph’s Pontefract / St Joseph’s Castleford / North Featherstone J&I

(see below for items and price lists etc.)

We will be available in the school gym from 3.30pm – 5pm. We will be selling uniform direct to parents and will provide sample sizes for your child to try on during the evening. (if your child wears appropriate attire on the evening for slipping items on and off this will make it a lot easier).  You can then pay for your order, which will be ready to collect on the Year 6 Parent’s Information Evening on 11th July 2019.  Please note that payment for uniform can be made with cash or cheque only; however, we are in the process of purchasing a card reader so it may be possible to pay with card on the night.  Please check the school website for any updates regarding payments.  The school issue skirt and trousers (with the school logo) is only available from school; and from Trutex from 1st July, other items of uniform can be purchased from our official suppliers.

Non Feeder Schools Transition Mornings: Tuesday 21st May or Wednesday 22nd May – This event is specifically for Year 6 students and their families who are transitioning to St Wilfrid’s with no or few other children from their primary school. You will have received your letter stating which day you have been invited in (please check or contact school if you are not sure which day you have been invited in) During the morning, students will take part in activities, have a tour of the school and meet other children joining us in September 2019. Parents will have the opportunity to meet key staff and order uniform and PE kit.  We will be selling uniform direct to parents and will provide sample sizes for your child to try on during the morning. You can then pay for your order, which will be ready to collect on the Year 6 Parent’s Information Evening on 11th July 2019.  Please note that payment for uniform can be made with cash or cheque only. The school issue skirt and trousers (with the school logo) are only available from school; and from Trutex from 1st July, other items of uniform can be purchased from our official suppliers.

Induction Days – Monday 8th and Tuesday 9th July 2019 – All Year 6 students are invited to spend two induction days at St Wilfrid’s from 9.15am – 2.30pm. This will help students to become familiar with our school and to increase confidence.  During the day, they will be involved in many activities; experience secondary school lessons, take part in liturgy service, be assigned to a form class and generally prepare for September 2019.  On the day, please arrive at school for 9.15am, where the transition team will be waiting for your arrival.  It will be possible for your child to purchase a school meal on the day and they will need £2.10 lunch money; alternatively, they can bring a packed lunch. It would also be a good idea to ensure they bring a bottle of water with them.  They must also wear their current school uniform and bring their PE kit with them.  Students can be dropped off and collected from the school bus bay car park at the side of school.

Year 6 Parent’s Information Evening – Thursday 11th July 2019.  We would also like to invite all students and parents to attend the Year 6 Parents’ Evening from 5.30pm – 7pm where you will have a chance to find out about school transport arrangements, meet with key school staff and collect school uniform/PE kit that you ordered in May.  There will be presentations on during the evening from the Heateacher and Director of Year 7 in the Sports Hall.  We will also have an exciting new lunch menu for you to view and lots of samples for you to try.

URGENT: 12/04/2019 Letter from the Headteacher

Dear Parents/Carers

Last year we had a parental consultation regarding uniform, the Academy Council stated that they would review the situation with regard to the adoption of an official school trouser in 12 months’ time. St Wilfrid’s has a long-standing reputation in the local community for being a school that is well respected for its high standards. The high standards of uniform expectations, with regard to wearing tailored school trousers has not been maintained and as a result, the Academy Councillors have made the decision to introduce an official school trouser from September 2019.

In May we will be hosting several Year 6 parent events based around the trying on of uniform and PE Kit. If you haven’t already been given the dates you will receive a letter after the Easter break direct from us with all dates of key events.  Proceeding these events from 1st July 2019, the official St Wilfrid’s school trousers with a logo can only be purchased via the Trutex website, which will be linked to the school website.  The deadline for purchasing trousers in time for September 2019 will be 4th August to guarantee delivery.   We advise you to attend the uniform events to ensure best-fit for your child.   You can of course purchase blazers and shirts from our official uniform providers but trousers and skirts are only available through school and the Trutex website from 1st July.

Working together we can encourage a professional environment, preparing our young people for the world of work and employability.

Yours faithfully

Mrs. Helen Gilroy                                                                                                                                                                                                             Headteacher B.A.(Hons) P.G.C.E. NPQH
