3G Pitch – Building and Information updates

Building Update – May 2020

Earlier this month construction of the pitch restarted and we are please to show you it is nearly complete.  Watch this space for future updates…

Building Update – March 2020

Unfortunately since the February update building work has temporarily ceased following large volumes of rainfall.  Before tarmac is laid the pitch base needs to dry out further to accommodate this.  We are hopeful that in coming weeks building will start again.

Building Update – February 2020

The development of our new 3G pitch is progressing well with fencing and floodlights now in place.  In the coming 2 weeks tarmac will be set before the rugby shock pad and pitch surface are installed.  Completion is estimated to be at the end of March.

Building Update – January 2020

The pitch formation has started, unfortunately due to the heavy rain, work has ceased for the week.  The contractors will start again on Monday 20th January, with a pump to remove surface water first!

Building Update – December 2019

The new path is well underway now!  We are hoping the major excavation will start this week once the path is finished and useable.

Building Update – November 2019

The contractors are creating a new path first which will run alongside the pitch to allow safe access to our new fire assembly point once the pitch is built.  Next week the grass football pitch and rugby pitch on the second field down will be moved 9m away from school to create the space required for the build.  Once these jobs are complete the pitch excavation will start.

The first part of the build is to lay a path which will run alongside the new pitch for access to the grass pitches and fire assembly point behind the 3G pitch.  We are hoping the major excavation will start this week once the path is useable.

In preparation for this fantastic new facility we wanted to make parents aware of the strict footwear policy that we must adhere to in order to prolong the lifespan of our new pitch.  Please view our school 3G pitch footwear guidelines

All students in school will use this facility, our Director of Sport, Miss Delaney has said “Having a 3G pitch at St Wilfrid’s will significantly enhance our facilities for all students and allow high quality PE lessons to be delivered all year round. It will also benefit our extra-curricular sports teams, meaning training and fixtures would commence even in inclement weather conditions, and students would not have to miss lessons as the facility is fully flood lit. This is a very exciting time for PE and sport at St Wilfrid’s.”

As a school we will be investing in a stock of studded boots for students to borrow; however if students can bring their own it would be appreciated as we will only be able to provide limited numbers of each size. Any donations of new or used boots would be greatly appreciated as long as they are acceptable 3G pitch footwear.

Building Update – October 2019

We are excited to let you know that the build of our 3G Pitch will begin on Monday 18th November.  Thank you for all your help fundraising to date, we still have some further fundraising events planned so watch this space.

We are working to provide a new booking system for all school lettings which will support the use of the 3G pitch as well as our other facilities.  If anyone would like further information about our facilities available for hire including the 3G pitch, please contact Chris Slater: Academy Business Manager csl@st-wilfrids.bkcat.co.uk
